There's one very important thing that you should be aware of if you're considering paying a visit to the retrofuturistic dystopia inspired by 1960s England that serves as the colorful setting for Contrast developer Compulsion Games' enormously creepy action adventure game, We Happy Few For the drug-obsessed residents of Wellington Wells, some Joy each day is what keeps the Downers away. Now, players control three characters across the story, each of whom is going against the grain of the dystopian 60s English society of Wellington Wells.


Taking place within the mid-1960s, following an alternative version of World War II , players take control over one of three characters, each of whom seek to complete a personal task while escaping the fictional city of Wellington Wells - a crumbling dystopia on the verge of societal collapse , due to the overuse of a hallucinogenic drug that keeps its inhabitants blissfully unaware about the truth of their world, while leaving them easily manipulated and lacking morals.


The narrative-driven missions delve deep into the lore of the world and the backstories of the characters while presenting unique gameplay opportunities beyond the basic sneaking, survival and combat that the town proper has to offer. Early Access and Game Preview Program owners of We Happy Few have been able to explore a portion of the procedurally generated world, collect and craft items, and interact with the Joy-obsessed society of Wellington Wells through stealth, combat, and conformity.


While the promise of a traditional story for three characters at the end of Early Access set in a fresh layout sounds interesting, We Happy Few gives off the impression that it's biting off more than it can chew, and right now it looks distracting and unfocussed.
