Burnout Paradise Remastered open-world car racing at its best
Welcome to Burnout Paradise Remastered, the redone version of the 2008 car racing game for xbox one and ps4. You will crash a lot in Burnout Paradise Remastered, but every time you do, it will put a smile on your face instead of an expression of frustration due to the sheer awesomeness of how everything looks, as the cars get deformed and glass splinters into the air and onto the road. I spent my time racing at top speeds, crashing through billboards, doing barrel rolls on the beach and hunting down other racers' cars by crashing into them and adding them to my collection, then testing out the new car by simply driving into a junkyard and switching my ride, or repairing my vehicle without even stopping just by driving through auto shops.
When Burnout Paradise (one of the best xbox one games out there) was released in 2008 it was one of the first racing games of its kind — a breakneck paced bullet-speed ride through a richly saturated city, where the racers rule the road and blast Guns'n'Roses and indie rock out of their in-car radios. In this age of moody indie games about feelings and online shoot 'em ups that expect you to understand like three different currencies and a bunch of classes, Burnout Paradise Remastered‘s focus on speed, fun and carnage is exactly the sort of game that will drag you out of any gaming funk and will put a big, dumb smile on your face.

When you're driving around in Burnout Paradise Remastered looking for races and cool stunts, you always feel like you're going much faster than cars in the majority of modern racing games. Ditching the circuit races and car customisation of its contemporaries in favour of an action-focused take on driving and an open city to explore, Burnout Paradise is one of the most frenetic and influential arcade racing games there is. Now, just in time for its tenth anniversary, it's being resold with a shiny new coat of paint. As well as straight-up speed races and time trials, the damage-dealing carnage that the previous Burnout titles were famous for also pops up, with players either needing to take out other vehicles or crash their own and then manipulate the tumbling wreck into traffic to rack up the heftiest repair bill possible. For example, Speed Boost cars are good for races, Stunt Boost vehicles are best for Stunt Runs, and Aggression Boost autos excel in Marked Man and Road Rage events.
GameSpot called Paradise "a superbly fun racer" and awarded it a 9/10 and BuyGames gave this car racing video game 8.5/10. Burnout Paradise, originally released in 2008 for PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360, is one of Criterion's best games, so it only makes sense that the remastered version is even better.
